About Us

Performers Physiotherapy is a partnership between Nicola and Leon Stephens, who are also husband and wife!

Nicola Stephens, BSc Hons, MCSP, MMACPNicola

Nicola graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University in 1997 with an honours degree in Physiotherapy. She initially worked for the NHS in Leeds, West Yorkshire specialising in musculoskeletal and rheumatology physiotherapy, before moving south to join Leon at Performers Physiotherapy, following a move to new premises and expansion of Performers College in 2003.

Nicola is passionate about the health and well being of dancers and has developed a role at Performers College as a Specialist Physiotherapist in Dance Medicine. However, she has also maintained her long held interests in Rheumatology which she finds extremely useful both within her role at the college and with the general public.

In 2005, Nicola completed her MMACP (Member of the Manipulation Association of Chartered Physiotherapists – in summary, clinical specialist examinations) and is a free-lance lecturer in both undergraduate physiotherapy and dance medicine.

Leon Stephens, BSc Hons, MCSPLeon

Leon graduated from Brighton University in 1996 with an honours degree in Physiotherapy. As well as having worked in Burns, Plastics and Neurology, Leon has been involved with Performers College as their in-house physiotherapist for over 8 years. Leon has since developed a keen interest in dance and sports injury management and has worked with both well known professional dancers and many international athletes.

In addition to his clinical physiotherapy workload, Leon teaches Pilates to both student dancers at the college and to the general public. Leon is also involved in teaching Clinical Pilates to post-graduate physiotherapists.

Both of us

As well as being members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists and registered with The Health Professions Council, both Nicola and Leon are members of the Organisation of Chartered Physiotherapists in Private Practice and recognised on Dance UK’s Practitioners’ Register. Through Performers College they are also members of IADMS, (International Association of Dance Medicine and Science).
