In addition to offering physiotherapy appointments to the general public, Performers Physiotherapy also offers specialist assessments to dancers.
Performers Physiotherapy provides the on-site physiotherapy services for Performers College, one on the country’s leading performing arts colleges. Performers Physiotherapy Department is internationally recognised as among the best to be found in any performing arts college. Both Nicola and Leon have extensive experience of working with dancers and work as part of the team at Performers College. Liaising closely with both tutors and students alike, from the day of their audition right through until graduation and beyond, they are able to recommend the correct action required to reduce injury time, and more importantly, prevent injuries occurring in the first place.
Having the physiotherapists so closely involved with the college means that in the unfortunate event of an injury occurring, timetables and activity can be modified to minimise the impact on our student’s training.
Both Nicola and Leon are also qualified to use Pilates as a clinical tool to assist with the treatment of any injuries, and by working closely with our in-house Pilates Instructor on rehabilitation programmes, injury time can be minimised. The ability to stay in shape whilst nursing an injury and learning to work correctly is of paramount importance to any dancer.
Both Nicola and Leon are registered practitioners with Dance UK and have both lectured on Dance UK’s Healthier Dancer Programme. Performers Physiotherapy is involved with research into fitness in dancers and injury prevention in the hope that this will further general knowledge in the areas of keeping dancers healthy and minimising time lost to injury.
Due to their combined extensive experience in working with dancers, Nicola and Leon are able to offer advice regarding audition screening, growth related problems and dance along with the treatment of dancer related injuries.
